This is the second Twain novel to read, after Tom Sawyer.  Plus, it is the all-time great American classic.  How does a young, abused, almost feral boy develop attitudes about the world around him, especially when his best friend is a slave?  His moral dilemmas may seem strange to us, but they seem very real to him.
